George Wostenholm -- Arguably Sheffield's finest cutler
Wostenholm's Early History
In the mid-1700’s, there was reputedly a cutler by the name of George Wolstenholme (b 1717) working in the village of Stannington, near Sheffield (the supposed birthplace of the Barlow pocket knife). Originally the family name was spelt ‘Wolstenholme’ but, story has it that the second George found this name too long for smaller knives so he omitted the letters ‘l’ and ‘e’. The name has been spelt Wostenholm ever since.

IXL WOSTENHOLM BRAND Knives -- The blades of these knives were made in Japan in the 1980's by Parker Cutlery, Jim Parker licensed the IXL name and decided to reproduce the most popular patterns in Seki, Japan. The blades were imported to the USA for assembly. Subsequently, Parker Cutlery filed for Bankruptcy and as a result the blades were placed in storage in the USA. A manufacturer was found to complete the assembly. I assume all knives are made with 440 C Stainless blades. Nickel Silver Bolsters, Brass Liners & Pins. All IXL Knives come with Laminated Black Wood Handles & as a result each knife handle will differ. The knives have never been used, sharpened, or damaged.
